The Federal Government has closed 47 unity colleges nationwide due to rising security threats and recent mass abductions.
The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 unity colleges across the country following mounting security threats and recent attacks on schools, according to THE CABLE. The directive, issued in a circular released on Friday, cited “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”
The closure was approved by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, and conveyed through a circular signed by Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, on behalf of the minister. Principals of the affected schools were instructed to ensure strict compliance. The affected colleges include:

On November 17, gunmen abducted about 25 girls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, killing the vice-principal. On November 21, armed men attacked St. Mary’s School in Niger State, with the number of abducted students yet to be confirmed.
