Uchechi Okwu-Kanu has criticised her husband’s lawyers for failing to inform her about Nnamdi Kanu’s transfer to a Sokoto correctional facility, describing their behaviour as unprofessional.
Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has rebuked his legal consultants for failing to brief her on his transfer to Sokoto prison following his life sentence by a federal high court in Abuja.
After Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed on X that the IPOB leader had been moved from DSS custody to a correctional facility “so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and wellwishers,” Okwu-Kanu said she only learned of the development “about three hours ago” and accused those who visited him earlier of withholding the information.
She said the lawyers instead “ran to social media to broadcast it,” describing their conduct as unacceptable and warning, “If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress’ and I promise you, you will be stressed.”
Meanwhile, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe said the life sentence was unsurprising given the federal government’s refusal to grant Kanu amnesty as done with other groups.
