A brawl broke out among Abia Labour Party lawmakers after a dispute over Governor Alex Otti’s alleged cash gift, leaving one legislator injured and sparking further chaos during a London trip.

A violent altercation erupted among members of the Labour Party caucus in the Abia State House of Assembly during a meeting over the alleged sharing of funds reportedly disbursed by Governor Alex Otti.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, who represents Arochukwu State Constituency, allegedly attacked Hon. Akachukwu Ucheonye, member representing Aba Central, with a beer bottle, inflicting a deep head wound and severe concussion.

Sources said the clash occurred at the Aba residence of Hon. Fyne Ahuama, with Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa reportedly cautioning members not to leak details or report the matter to the police.

The disagreement reportedly followed the sharing of money said to have been sent by Governor Otti to appreciate the lawmakers for passing the 2025 supplementary budget.

Ucheonye, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, allegedly demanded a larger share, prompting a brawl.

He was later treated at a private clinic before joining colleagues on a controversial state-sponsored trip to London, where another dispute reportedly broke out over unshared travel funds.
