Ogun APC has suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel amid his escalating rivalry with Governor Dapo Abiodun over the 2027 senatorial ticket.
The political rivalry between Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor Senator Gbenga Daniel has intensified after the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced Daniel’s suspension from the party.
Days after the attempted demolition of Daniel’s luxury property failed, the Ogun APC State Working Committee accused him and lawmaker Kunle Folarin of “anti-party activities” and “misconduct.” The party also claimed Daniel pressured members to withdraw an unfavourable petition and ignored disciplinary summons.
“In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State hereby affirms the suspension of two members of our party in Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin, by their respective wards for alleged anti-party activities,” the party said in a statement.
Analysts view the move as part of Abiodun’s strategy to weaken Daniel ahead of the 2027 elections, where both are expected to compete for the Ogun East senatorial seat.
Once allies, their relationship collapsed after 2019, fracturing the state APC.
