A police officer was killed and two suspected bandits shot dead during a violent gun battle in Guto village, Abuja.
A deadly attack by suspected bandits in Guto village, a border community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, left one police officer dead and two gang members killed, according to a report from SAHARAREPORTERS.
The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. on Thursday, when approximately 30 armed men stormed the community in a failed kidnapping attempt targeting a resident and members of his family. A distress call was immediately sent to the police.
Responding swiftly, operatives from the Bwari Division, backed by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS), engaged the attackers in a fierce shootout. SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, stated, “During the exchange, police operatives shot dead two members of the criminal gang, forcing the others to retreat into the surrounding bushes and rocky hills.”
However, the operation came at a high cost. One police officer was fatally shot and later confirmed dead at Bwari General Hospital. Josephine described him as one who “paid the supreme price in the line of duty.”
FCT Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye has deployed additional personnel to restore order and ordered a full-scale investigation to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Authorities confirmed that normalcy has returned to the community.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the FCT and underscores the risks faced by law enforcement in confronting armed criminal gangs.
