In a move that has stunned many, Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Christopher Maikalangu, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement came on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in a statement released by his media aide, Kingsley Madaki.

“It was important we took a position, and the position we took is for the good of our democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward,” Maikalangu said. “My people must know that for me to have made this decision, I considered the general interests of AMAC residents. I was not elected to lead the entire Nigeria; I was elected to lead AMAC residents.”

He emphasized that his decision to join the APC was not personal but based on a thorough evaluation of what would benefit his constituents in the long term. According to Maikalangu, the APC is the only party that can offer AMAC residents the opportunities and resources they deserve.

“I looked at the interests of my people, and I have seen that these interests were not protected in any other party than the APC,” he said.

Maikalangu further urged AMAC residents to understand the dynamics of political alignment and not let emotions cloud their judgment. “Politics is about strategy, and it is about doing what is best for the people you lead,” he said.
