The ADC has asked President Tinubu to explain his five-day absence after the BRICS Summit in Brazil, calling it a pattern of unaccountable governance.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded an explanation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his five-day absence following the conclusion of the BRICS Summit in Brazil.

Tinubu, who returned to Abuja early Sunday, had not been seen or heard from since the summit ended on Monday, July 7. In a statement, ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the president’s silence as “disdain for accountability.”

“We cannot wish those five days away,” the ADC said, insisting that Nigerians deserve to know the reason for the delay.

The statement highlighted a recurring pattern of unannounced absences, citing similar incidents in January, April, and August 2024. “A president that vanishes without accountability has no moral authority to demand sacrifice from citizens,” the party added.

The ADC warned that such disappearances damage Nigeria’s global image and urged citizens to hold the president and the ruling party accountable for what it called “serial disappearances.”
