The ADC has promised to allocate 50% of positions to youths and women while receiving new defectors from PDP and Labour Party in Lagos.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to reserve half of its elective and appointive positions for youths and women.

Speaking in Lagos on Saturday at a ceremony to welcome defectors from the PDP, Labour Party and others, ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola said the party was committed to inclusive leadership.

“The ADC’s constitution allocates 35 per cent representation each for women and youth. Since these demographics overlap, their combined representation will be no less than 50 per cent. This structure makes the ADC unquestionably the party of the youth,” Aregbesola said.

He added that the ADC was a collective of patriotic citizens and not a one-man structure, stressing that “no government could survive without prioritising citizens’ welfare.”

Former PDP BoT member Abimbola Ogunkelu, who led the defectors, described the move as the beginning of “a new era of progressive politics.”

The defectors included former Lagos PDP chairmen Muritala Ashorobi and Tunji Shelle, among other party leaders.
