Adebayo slams Tinubu over Brazil trip, says SDP manifesto had the answers

Adebayo faulted Tinubu’s Brazil trip, urging him to adopt SDP’s homegrown policies instead of seeking foreign solutions.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Brazil, describing it as wasteful and unnecessary. In a statement issued in Abuja, Adebayo argued that the solutions Tinubu seeks abroad already exist in the SDP manifesto.

He maintained that Brazil’s progress was achieved through deliberate policies, not chance. According to him: “What they have is a poverty reduction manifesto and set of programmes and policies. If you look at the Bolsa Familia, which reduced poverty by 27 percent in Brazil in four years under President Lula da Silva’s government, it is the opposite of the ‘subsidy is gone’ approach that has increased poverty exponentially in Nigeria.”

Adebayo further compared Petrobras with Nigeria’s NNPC, faulting Tinubu’s management approach. He said the president could have consulted local policy alternatives rather than spending resources abroad, insisting that Nigeria must embrace homegrown solutions for sustainable growth.
