Nigerians will enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s tenure in 2027
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured that Nigerians will enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tenure in 2027.
At the weekend commissioning of the Kwaru 1×15 MVA 33/11 KV injection substation in Ikotun‑Egbe, Lagos, Adelabu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to reforming power generation, transmission and distribution across the country.
Adelabu said, “The present administration in Nigeria, led by His Excellency, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the Renewed Hope Agenda, recognizes that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation.”
He highlighted milestones such as activation of twelve state electricity markets under the Electricity Act 2023, attraction of over $2 billion in fresh investments, a 70 per cent revenue rise in 2024, increased installed capacity from 13 GW to 14 GW, and grid stabilisation through Siemens adding over 700 MW transmission capacity.
While acknowledging challenges—especially distribution losses, low remittance and ongoing service complaints—Adelabu pledged continued collaboration with DisCos “to ensure energy security nationwide.” He also commended Ikeja Electric for completing the Lagos substation within 12 months, praising its “diligence, proper planning, stakeholder engagement, and technical expertise.”
