Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed urgent action on the case of Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu, jailed in the United States for fraud.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered action on the case of Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu, currently jailed in the United States over a COVID-19 loan fraud.
At Friday’s State Executive Council meeting, Adeleke tasked the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to address the situation amid calls by indigenes to declare the stool vacant.
Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, in a statement, said the governor described the case as “ugly” and demanded urgent steps.
A U.S. court sentenced Oloyede to jail, restitution of $4.4m, and supervised release. While some indigenes press for replacement, kingmakers are resisting moves to depose the monarch.
