Buhari might not have survived without foreign medical care – Adesina
"Buhari always had his medical in London, even when he was not in office. So, it's not about the time he was president alone. And then, you have to be alive first to do certain things. If he had said, ‘I will do my medicals in Nigeria’, he could have long been dead because there may not be the expertise needed in the country
Former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex‑President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, has said Buhari “could have died long ago” if he had depended on Nigeria’s healthcare system. Speaking in an interview ahead of the late leader’s burial in Daura, Katsina State, Adesina noted Buhari always sought treatment in London, well before his presidency. “Like I said, he always had his medicals in London, even when he was not in office,” he said.
Adesina defended Buhari’s frequent medical trips abroad, saying it was a matter of “survival rather than showmanship.” He argued that had Buhari attempted to have check‑ups locally, “he could have long been dead because there may not be the expertise needed in the country.” He emphasised the importance of good health to effect national change: “You have to be alive first to get certain things changed or corrected in your country.” He also criticised critics, insisting they “don’t know that a man needs to be alive first before he can effect a change.” Buhari passed away at 82 on July 13 in a London clinic and was buried July 15 in Daura.
