Deji Adeyanju says he would choose Tinubu over Peter Obi in 2027, citing intolerance among Obi’s supporters as his main reason.
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has said he would prefer President Bola Tinubu over Peter Obi if both contest in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Friday, Adeyanju stressed that his stance was not an endorsement of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but a reflection of his convictions about democracy, tolerance, and political conduct.
“Why would somebody like me support the APC? Support the APC for what? If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote Tinubu,” he said, adding that his reservations stemmed from the conduct of some Obi supporters during the 2023 elections.
He alleged that many of them resorted to online intimidation of dissenting voices. “Anybody who does not support their candidate is an enemy of Nigeria,” Adeyanju said, citing the backlash actress Joke Silva faced for supporting Tinubu.
The activist recalled voting across party lines in past elections, from Obasanjo in 1999 to Sowore in 2023, insisting his decisions have always been guided by personal judgment.
He maintained that opposing Obi does not amount to supporting APC, but to rejecting political extremism.
