The group’s leader said Tinubu’s public admission that project contractor Gilbert Chagoury was his “partner in daring” raises serious ethical concerns.
A faction of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has called for the impeachment of President Bola Tinubu over alleged conflict of interest in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
The group’s leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, said Tinubu’s public admission that project contractor Gilbert Chagoury was his “partner in daring” raises serious ethical concerns.
“All President Tinubu is doing is building a road to his own Atlantic City,” Olaitan told Saturday PUNCH. “He openly said the contractor is his partner. That means he awarded a federal contract to himself.”
He added that the project lacked transparency and may serve private interests, demanding that the National Assembly initiate impeachment proceedings.
In response, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo dismissed the claims. “It’s a joke taken too far. He didn’t say business partner. He meant partners in vision,” he said, insisting the contract followed due process.
Olaitan, however, maintained that Tinubu’s remarks breached public trust and democratic standards.
