Gunmen suspected to be behind Sunday’s deadly ambush on a police patrol team in Imo State have released a video flaunting stolen rifles and mocking security forces.
The attack occurred around 9:00 a.m. near Old Gariki, along the Okigwe-Umuahia Road. Police Constable Oluebube was killed, and his firearm was taken. Assistant Superintendent of Police Casmir, who led the team, was declared missing, along with his AK-47 rifle.
In the 1-minute, 47-second video obtained by SaharaReporters, the assailants warned, “We don’t want to see police, army or DSS around Okigwe.” They accused security forces of extortion and extrajudicial killings.
One rifle shown in the video is believed to have been taken from the slain officer.
The police said, “One PC Oluebube was killed in action and his smoke gunner carted away. ASP Casmir and his AK-47 rifle is missing.”
A manhunt is ongoing to find ASP Casmir and recover the stolen weapon.
