“Around 270 bodies have been brought to the civil hospital so far,”…Many of the victims are yet to be identified due to extensive burns.
AHMEDABAD —The death toll from Thursday’s Air India crash has risen to 270, officials confirmed Saturday, after more bodies were pulled from the wreckage of a Boeing 787 that slammed into a medical college dormitory shortly after takeoff.
“Around 270 bodies have been brought to the civil hospital so far,” said Dr. Dhaval Gamet of Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital. Many of the victims are yet to be identified due to extensive burns, with doctors collecting dental and DNA samples for verification.
The sole survivor, Ramesh Vishwashkumar, a UK national of Indian origin, told India’s Doordarshan: “I jumped out seconds after the crash. I saw people dying around me.”
Grieving families await updates. One relative said, “I gave my blood test… so far there were no bodies of them.”
The crash is under investigation by India’s aviation authority, which is analyzing black box data and has ordered urgent inspections of all Air India Boeing 787s, citing potential engine failure and poor visibility as possible causes.
