Air Peace has begun direct flights from Abuja to London Heathrow, marking a milestone for Nigerian aviation.

Air Peace has launched direct flights from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to London Heathrow Airport.

The inaugural flight, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, departed on Sunday morning and is expected to arrive in London by evening.

Keyamo said the achievement stemmed from President Bola Tinubu’s directive to empower Nigerian carriers. “We dug deep to discover the problems of local operators over the years,” he noted. “Over 100 airlines have come and gone. Our goal is to support their growth and ensure fair competition.”

He added that for the first time, a Nigerian airline has secured access and slots at Heathrow, correcting years of imbalance under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement.

Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyeama commended the government’s support, saying, “This administration listens to the complaints and challenges of the people. It has made life easier for local airlines.”
