Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines have announced plans to hike yuletide economy airfares to as high as ₦350,500 for flights between Lagos/Abuja and South-East/South-South routes.

Two Nigerian domestic carriers, Air Peace Airlines and United Nigeria Airlines, have announced sharp increases in their economy class fares for the Christmas and New Year period, setting one-way tickets at ₦350,500.

According to fare schedules already published on their websites, the hikes will affect flights from Lagos and Abuja to airports in the South-East—Owerri, Enugu and Anambra—as well as South-South destinations including Port Harcourt and Asaba. Return flights from these airports to Lagos or Abuja will also cost ₦350,500.

Air Peace’s peak fares will apply from December 1, 2025 through January 30, 2026, while United Nigeria’s higher rates begin on December 11 and run until the end of the year. From January 1, 2026, United Nigeria will lower its Abuja-Asaba, Abuja-Anambra, Abuja-Port Harcourt, and Abuja-Owerri tickets to ₦150,000.

Fares to northern destinations are comparatively lower. Air Peace’s Lagos-Kano ticket is listed around ₦106,900 on most days but spikes to ₦350,500 on select dates. United Nigeria charges a relatively stable ₦220,499 for Lagos-Kano. Air Peace will also charge ₦350,500 on days it flies Lagos-Yola, though it does not operate the route daily.

The announcement has already sparked discussions among travelers facing steep transport costs during the yuletide season, a period traditionally marked by mass movement to the South-East and South-South.
