Activist Aisha Yesufu has pledged to accompany Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Senate today, declaring support amid resistance to the senator’s planned resumption. A Federal High Court ruling in July declared Akpoti-Uduaghan’s March suspension unconstitutional, but Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s legal team has appealed.
“I think Senator Natasha has every right to resume office… and I’ll be one of them,” Yesufu told Channels TV. She accused the Senate of discrimination, saying, “Out of 109 senators, we have only four women.”
Yesufu condemned the judiciary’s alleged submission to political pressure. “The judiciary… is now a pawn in the hands of corrupt politicians,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed plans to resume, stating, “I’ve written to the Senate again… I will be there.”
Her suspension followed an altercation involving seat arrangements and allegations against Akpabio, which he denied. The Senate insists she cannot return without a binding court order.
