Akon is seeking to terminate spousal support in his ongoing divorce from longtime wife Tomeka Thiam
According to a report from TMZ. Akon is pushing back against paying spousal support to his estranged wife, Tomeka Thiam, in their ongoing divorce proceedings,
New court filings show the singer checked the box to terminate any spousal support for Tomeka, who had requested it when she filed for divorce in September after 29 years of marriage. The filing, submitted Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, indicates that both parties appear intent on protecting their finances.
TMZ reports that Tomeka also asked the court not to award Akon any spousal support, signaling a mutual desire to keep financial obligations separate as the divorce moves forward.
In addition to the financial issues, custody remains a point of negotiation. Akon is requesting joint physical custody of the 17-year-old child he shares with Tomeka. She, however, is seeking joint legal custody but full physical custody.
The divorce comes at a turbulent moment for the singer. TMZ previously reported that Akon was arrested in Georgia last week after failing to appear in court for a case related to driving with a suspended license. The incident added legal pressure as he navigates the dissolution of his marriage.
With both parties aligned on blocking spousal support but differing on custody arrangements, the case is expected to develop further as filings continue in the coming months.
