Senate President Godswill Akpabio made a viral blunder during Wednesday’s plenary.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made a viral blunder during Wednesday’s plenary, mistakenly stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been “buried” instead of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The whole country is very proud of what this administration has done in the way and manner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was honoured and was buried,” Akpabio said before correcting himself: “President Buhari, rather. Sorry. President Buhari was honoured and buried. You will also observe that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be forgotten for what he did during the burial ceremony of late President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Former President Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at 82, while receiving treatment in London. His body was flown to Katsina and buried in Daura last Tuesday after Janaza prayers at 4:50 pm.
President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other top officials attended the ceremony. Security was tight, and a Nigerien delegation was also present.
Buhari’s passing marked the end of a five-decade political career, including roles as military and civilian leader.
