Akpabio says opposition lawmakers defecting to the APC are driven by patriotism and confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio says recent defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress reflect patriotism and confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
He stated this on Wednesday night after leading Senators Agom Jarigbe (Cross River North) and Kaila Samaila (Bauchi North) to a meeting with the President at the State House, Abuja.
Both lawmakers recently left the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC. Akpabio said their decision was inspired by Tinubu’s economic reforms and focus on national development.
“They (Jarigbe and Samaila) are Mr President’s children, and they are his supporters. The president is the father of the nation and the father of all political parties,” Akpabio said.
He added that their defection was driven by “patriotism” and the desire to contribute to nation-building. Jarigbe said he joined the APC because “the president is really doing well,” noting that he wants to support Tinubu in delivering “the dividends of democracy.”
