Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Ini Ememobong, has resigned just two hours after Governor Umo Eno officially defected to the APC, citing political principles.

Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Ini Ememobong, has resigned just hours after Governor Umo Eno defected from the PDP to the APC.

Ememobong announced his resignation via Facebook on Friday, stating, “Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign.”

He added, “While I cannot question or fault the Governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in politics with principles.”

Ememobong expressed continued respect for Governor Eno, calling him “my brother,” and thanked both Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity to serve.

Governor Eno had earlier instructed that cabinet members unwilling to defect with him should prepare to resign, stating, “You can’t be in my cabinet and play anti-party. It is what it is.”
