The rumours gained traction after the Oluwo openly declared that the Alaafin holds superiority over all traditional rulers in Yorubaland, a statement that further fuelled talk of tension between the two prominent monarchs.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has debunked rumours of a conflict with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, following speculation over his recent visit to the Oluwo of Iwo.
Social media buzz suggested tension between the monarchs after the Oluwo declared the Alaafin’s superiority in Yorubaland. However, in a viral video, Oba Owoade clarified that his planned visit to the Ooni was postponed due to the latter’s trip to Kazakhstan. “I informed my PA and Chief of Staff earlier to know when we would visit him… People who do not know about this are the ones spreading rumours,” he stated.
The Alaafin emphasized his cordial relationship with the Ooni, recalling a recent phone conversation involving the Soun of Ogbomoso. He dismissed the rumours as baseless, attributing them to mischief makers.
