Two years after actress Suzanne Somers’ death, her husband of 55 years, Alan Hamel, has revealed plans to keep her memory alive through artificial intelligence.
Hamel told People Magazine that he is developing an “AI Twin” of Somers, who died in 2023 at age 76 after a long battle with breast cancer.
“Obviously, Suzanne was greatly loved, not only by her family, but by millions of people,” Hamel said. “One of the projects that we have coming up is a really interesting project, the Suzanne AI Twin.”
Hamel said the couple first discussed the idea decades ago after learning about AI from computer scientist Ray Kurzweil. “It was Suzanne’s idea,” he added. “She said, ‘I think we should do that… we’ll provide a service to my fans and people who want information about their health.’”
The AI was trained on Somers’ 27 books and hundreds of interviews. “It was Suzanne,” Hamel said. “I asked her a few questions and she answered them—it blew me and everybody else away.”
Hamel noted that his family supports the project, calling it a fitting tribute to Somers’ enduring influence.
