The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied any involvement in the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya, asserting that the agency’s jurisdiction does not extend beyond Nigeria’s borders.

A DSS intelligence officer, identified as Mr BBB, made this known during cross-examination at the Federal High Court on Wednesday. “The DSS lacks the powers to effect arrest beyond Nigeria’s borders,” he told the court, adding that Kanu claimed he was “kidnapped” and brought back from Kenya in 2021.

Mr BBB also stated that the DSS operates under the office of the National Security Adviser and is not influenced by ministers or politicians. He alleged that Kanu incited violence through Radio Biafra, linking his broadcasts to attacks during the EndSARS protests.

The judge, Justice James Omotosho, cautioned against live streaming court proceedings and warned defence counsel Aloy Ejimakor over social media posts.

The court admitted key legal documents into evidence and adjourned proceedings to May 22 for continued cross-examination.
