Amazon Web Services went down Monday, disrupting major platforms like Zoom and Roblox as AWS engineers scramble to restore its cloud infrastructure.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a widespread outage Monday, triggering service disruptions for several major online platforms including Zoom and Roblox. The downtime sent ripples through the internet ecosystem, affecting both consumer apps and enterprise services.
In its status updates, AWS said the issue was originating in the North America region and that engineers were “actively working on recovery.” The company did not immediately disclose the root cause. Meanwhile, affected platforms issued messages of their own: Zoom told users it “is aware of a problem affecting a subset of users,” while Roblox acknowledged it was “experiencing issues connecting” and indicated it was investigating.
The blackout exposed the interconnected fragility of cloud-based services, with even robust platforms knocked offline when their infrastructure provider falters. Industry watchers noted that AWS outages, though rare, tend to cascade widely because so many services rely on its backbone.
As of late Monday, AWS reported partial recovery in some zones, but cautioned that lingering instability might persist for hours.
