Amazon will lay off 30,000 corporate employees, its largest workforce cut ever, as part of cost and AI restructuring.

Amazon is set to begin its largest-ever round of corporate layoffs on Tuesday, affecting as many as 30,000 employees, according to reports from Reuters and CNBC. The cuts, spanning nearly all business divisions, mark the biggest corporate downsizing in the company’s history.

Employees are expected to be notified via email, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC. Amazon declined to comment on the planned layoffs.

The e-commerce giant, which employs about 1.54 million people globally including roughly 350,000 corporate staff has been trimming its workforce since 2022, cutting more than 27,000 jobs to date.

CEO Andy Jassy has led a broad cost-cutting drive aimed at simplifying the company’s structure and adapting to generative AI. In a June memo, he warned, “We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today.”

The layoffs come amid widespread tech industry reductions, with more than 98,000 workers losing jobs across over 200 companies this year alone.
