Tobi Amusan has criticised Team Nigeria’s World Championships kit, describing it as a sign of poor coordination and lack of professionalism within the Athletics Federation.
With just hours before the opening of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Nigerian hurdler and former world champion, Tobi Amusan, has voiced strong criticism of the national team’s competition kit.
Amusan, the women’s 100m hurdles world record holder, described the kit as poorly prepared, calling it an embarrassment that reflected a lack of professionalism and coordination by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
Speaking ahead of her event, the star athlete urged officials to prioritise athletes’ needs, stressing that the image of the nation on the global stage is tied to proper preparation and representation. “This level of unpreparedness is unacceptable,” she reportedly remarked, demanding reforms to improve support for athletes.
Her comments highlight persistent challenges in Nigerian sports administration, where issues of inadequate funding, poor logistics, and insufficient athlete welfare have often marred international outings.
Amusan’s criticism has reignited debate about Nigeria’s readiness for global competitions and the effectiveness of sports leadership in ensuring athletes compete under the best conditions.
