INEC has uploaded 97.5% of results from the Anambra governorship election, with observers praising the process despite some allegations of vote-buying.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 97.50 per cent of results from the Anambra State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal, according to reporting by our correspondent. Checks on the INEC website at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday showed that out of 5,718 polling units, results from 5,577 units had been posted.
The election featured 18 candidates, 16 men and two women representing various political parties. Prominent contenders include incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, and George Nnadubem Moghalu of the Labour Party. Others in the race include Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party and Paul Chukwuka Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Dayo Oketola, said the election had been widely commended for its organisation and transparency. “With reports of seamless operations, strong security coordination, and near-total PVC collection, both domestic and international observers have described the Anambra governorship election as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a clear testament to the renewed confidence in INEC’s leadership and electoral integrity,” he said.
However, some politicians alleged incidents of vote-buying in parts of the state as voters turned out to elect a new governor.
