Labour Party’s Peter Obi-backed candidate lost at Agulu polling unit, with APC’s Ukachukwu winning 73 votes to LP’s 57.
The Labour Party (LP) suffered a setback on Saturday as its presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, failed to secure a victory for his party at his polling unit during the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
Official results announced around 3 p.m. at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, winning with 73 votes. Labour Party’s George Moghalu garnered 57 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 38 votes.
Obi, who had earlier cast his ballot at the unit, had actively campaigned for the LP candidate ahead of the election.
Commenting on the result, an observer noted, “The outcome is unexpected given Obi’s popularity in the area.” The result contrasts sharply with the 2023 presidential election, where Obi secured over 95 per cent of the votes in Anambra State.
