Falana urges APC and PDP to address a Canadian court ruling describing them as terrorist organisations.
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prove they are not terrorist organisations.
This follows a ruling by Canada’s Federal Court which described both parties as engaging in terrorism-related conduct under Canadian law.
“The parties must address the grave issues raised rather than dismissing the pronouncements,” Falana said on Monday, citing Justice Phuong Ngo’s finding that Nigeria’s dominant parties use “violence, coercion and subversion” to gain power.
Falana warned the verdict has implications under Nigeria’s Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, stressing that elections often involve rigging, thuggery, and intimidation without consequences.
