It is so beautiful that my friends from America, the UK are now sending their representatives to Nigeria to study how the House of Representatives is doing it
Philip Agbese, deputy spokesperson of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, disclosed on Thursday that delegations from the United States Congress and the British House of Commons visited Nigeria to study the workings of its lower legislative chamber. Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo in Benue State, made the remarks at the conclusion of the 2025 House “Open Week” in Abuja.
Describing the event — themed “Deepening Citizens’ Trust and Participation: Celebrating Our Journey as the People’s House” — as “a revolutionary blueprint for global legislative engagement,” Agbese praised Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s leadership, saying it has placed Nigeria’s parliament “in the league of the most open and progressive in the world.”
“It is so beautiful that my friends from America, the UK are now sending their representatives to Nigeria to study how the House of Representatives is doing it,” Agbese said. He lauded the initiative as a “masterstroke of democratic innovation” and “a movement, a national renaissance of trust in democratic institutions.”
