During the Sunday summit, delegates shouted down speakers and threatened violence after Shettima’s name was omitted from 2027 endorsements
ABUJA — Mustapha Salihu, All Progressives Congress (APC) national vice-chairman (North-East), says endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term without naming Vice-President Kashim Shettima complies with party rules.
Salihu made the remarks Monday on Channels TV’s Politics Today, after his Tinubu-only endorsement at an APC stakeholders’ summit in Gombe sparked outrage and chaos.
During the Sunday summit, delegates shouted down speakers and threatened violence after Shettima’s name was omitted from 2027 endorsements. Security operatives had to escort Salihu out of the venue.
Defending his stance, Salihu said, “No party constitution allows a candidate to go into the primary with a running mate… It is only after the president becomes a candidate that he will pick a running mate, which will be his prerogative.”
He added, “In party politics, we have only one ticket for the executive… for the local government chairman, the governor and the president.”
Later, Deputy Chairman Ali Bukar endorsed both Tinubu and Shettima.
