Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence have urged Nigerians to reject Omoyele Sowore’s planned protest for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, calling it a destabilisation plot.
The Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence (AYPC) have publicly warned Nigerians against participating in an upcoming protest being organised by activist Omoyele Sowore demanding the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. The group claims the planned march is not a genuine exercise in democratic dissent, but rather “a deliberate attempt to discredit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and destabilise the country.”
At a press conference, AYPC’s FCT coordinator, Ogah Okpanachi, dismissed the protest as opportunistic and cautioned against repeating the destructive outcomes of past demonstrations. He stated, “We categorically reject this call and urge every peace-loving Nigerian to shun and resist this misguided attempt to destabilise our beloved nation.”
Okpanachi argued further that “as a nation governed by the rule of law, we have an independent judiciary … No individual or group has the authority to take the law into their hands or intimidate the courts through street demonstrations.” He emphasized that the group “reaffirm our unflinching support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” and urged citizens—especially the youth—to back “peace, unity and progress” rather than confrontation.
