Suspected armed herders killed four people, including a mother and her son, in attacks on two Agatu communities in Benue State.
Tragedy struck Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday when suspected armed herders attacked Egwuma and Ogbai communities, killing four people, including a mother and her son. Two other persons were declared missing as locals continued search efforts.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were working on their farms when the attackers invaded. “Some herdsmen attacked Egwuma and Ogbai communities today, they killed a woman and his son who were working on their farm and also killed two others at neighbouring Ogbai community,” a resident, Inalegwu, recounted.
Confirming the incident, Agatu LGA Chairman, Melvin James, condemned the killings as “senseless and barbaric,” adding that it was an unprovoked assault on innocent citizens. He noted that the attack coincided with security patrols in other parts of the council.
Benue police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet said she was yet to receive the report as she was on official duty but promised to provide details later.
