A leaked video shows Nigerian Army surveillance officers watching Boko Haram fighters advance on a Borno base without warning troops, leading to heavy casualties and equipment losses.
A leaked surveillance video has revealed that Nigerian Army personnel at the 7 Division headquarters in Maiduguri observed Boko Haram militants advancing toward a military base in Borno State but failed to alert soldiers on the ground.
SaharaReporters obtained the footage showing “hundreds” of insurgents marching in a straight line toward the 152 Task Force Battalion in Banki, Bama Local Government Area, shortly before Thursday’s midnight assault.
During the attack, the gunmen killed an undisclosed number of soldiers, burned armoured tanks and military vehicles, and carted away large quantities of ammunition, sources said.
“That’s the video which captured Boko Haram terrorists on their way to attack Banki,” a soldier said, questioning why the operational room “didn’t alert the Air Force and Artillery.”
He alleged that commanders “sat there comfortable in the CCTV room watching, while we have a lot of casualties,” adding that the commanding officer fled to the Cameroonian border.
Nigeria’s military has repeatedly claimed significant victories against the insurgents despite ongoing deadly raids.
