Former Arsenal striker Billy Vigar has died aged 21 after suffering a significant brain injury while playing for Chichester City.

Vigar was placed in an induced coma following an injury during Saturday’s Isthmian League Premier Division match against Wingate and Finchley. His family confirmed he underwent surgery but passed away on Thursday morning. “Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him,” they said, adding they were devastated by the loss.

Chichester City said it was with “great sadness” they confirmed his passing and requested privacy for his family. Vigar, who also played for Derby, Hastings and Eastbourne Borough, came through Arsenal’s academy and signed professional terms in 2022. Arsenal described him as “quick, powerful and fiercely determined,” and said he would be remembered for his pride in representing the club.
