Partey, 32, denies all charges…“welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name” and has “fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their investigation.”

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday.

The charges, relating to three women between 2021 and 2022, come just five days after Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired on June 30.

Arsenal issued a brief statement: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.”

Partey, 32, denies all charges. Through his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, he said he “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name” and has “fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their investigation.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.”

Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.

The Ghana international joined Arsenal in 2020 for £45 million, making 167 appearances before leaving last month.
