Arsenal’s 10-game winning run ended as Sunderland salvaged a 2-2 draw with a stoppage-time equalizer.
Arsenal’s 10-game winning streak in all competitions was halted on Saturday as Sunderland secured a dramatic 2-2 draw thanks to Brian Brobbey’s stoppage-time equaliser, according to Premier League reporting.
The Gunners had not conceded in their previous eight matches, but Dan Ballard’s early strike gave the Black Cats the lead, ending Arsenal’s clean sheet run dating back to September 28.
Victory for Sunderland would have lifted the newly-promoted side into second place, but Arsenal responded with second-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard, briefly putting Mikel Arteta’s team back in front.
However, Arsenal could not hold on, as Brobbey outmuscled Gabriel Magalhaes to hook in Ballard’s flick in stoppage time, denying the Gunners three points.
The draw allows Manchester City to maintain pressure at the top, with the league leaders set to host Liverpool on Sunday. Arsenal’s dropped points provide a rare boost for their title rivals, revealing cracks in the Gunners’ previously dominant form. Liverpool currently sit fourth, eight points behind Arsenal, while City remain seven points adrift of the Gunners.
