The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has started mobilising its members for a nationwide strike over unresolved issues with the Federal Government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun mobilising members across universities for a nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s failure to address its long-standing demands.

ASUU had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government to conclude the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement and resolve other pending issues.

In a memo dated October 5, 2025, ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, said, “It is now one week since those resolutions were reached and communicated to the appropriate authorities. I regret to inform you that there is no meaningful development deserving of any consideration to be reported.”

He added that the action aims to compel the government to sign and implement the renegotiated agreement.

“The goal of our current action remains principally to compel the government to sign and implement the renegotiated agreement document,” he said.

The planned strike begins after the expiration of the ultimatum.
