Atiku Abubakar has denied links to a purported media consultant who issued a false statement claiming he pledged to protect Yoruba interests in 2027.
Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has denied links to a media consultant, Kola Johnson, who claimed he pledged to protect Yoruba interests if elected president in 2027.
In a statement issued Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the report as “false and offensive,” alleging it was orchestrated by “faceless mercenaries” to discredit him. He maintained: “Atiku Abubakar has never engaged one Kola Johnson as a media consultant, aide, or associate. Any statement issued in that name is fake and should be disregarded.”
The former vice president urged media outlets to retract the report and verify future publications with his media office.
The widely circulated Wednesday report quoted Johnson as saying Atiku’s marriage to a Yoruba woman in the 1970s cemented his ties with the South-West. Atiku dismissed the claim, insisting that authentic information on him is only released by his official media team.
