Opposition coalition accuses PDP govs of fronting for Tinubu ahead of 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s opposition coalition has criticized governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for refusing to join forces against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Coalition spokesman Salihu Moh. Lukman accused the PDP governors of “playing Asiwaju’s spoiler game” following their April 14 decision to reject any coalition with opposition parties.

“Nyesom Wike is the untouchable super minister in Asiwaju’s government not because of the sterling job he is doing in the FCT, but because he has done a great job of ensuring that the PDP is not able to present a presidential candidate to challenge Tinubu for power in 2027,” Lukman said.

The coalition claims PDP leadership has effectively been compromised, pointing to organizational dysfunction within the party.

“The mere fact that the NEC meeting of the party has not been held for two years and no Nigerian can confidently tell who is really in charge of the party is evidence of this collapse,” Lukman stated.

Atiku’s group maintains the coalition remains essential to “rescue Nigeria’s democracy from imminent collapse” despite the PDP governors’ stance.

“The coalition is working hard to finalise negotiations towards unveiling the coalition, along with its structure, and programme of action for rescuing Nigeria,” according to Lukman, who extended an invitation to all political actors to join their movement.

The coalition says it will consider any platform that promotes good governance in its effort to challenge President Tinubu in the next general election.
