“What we have agreed is that whoever comes out of an open primary will enjoy the support of all,” Amaechi stated.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Anambra Governor Peter Obi, and former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi have pledged to support whoever emerges as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in 2027—provided the selection is transparent.

“What we have agreed is that whoever comes out of an open primary will enjoy the support of all,” Amaechi stated. “But let’s first of all sit down and agree what we mean by open because it is very easy for one man to hijack the process.”

Interim ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, assured party members of neutrality. “We shall be an open book,” Mark declared at a July 8 press conference.

Atiku recently hinted at running while dismissing talk of stepping aside for a southern rival. Obi also confirmed he will contest again, rejecting rumours of accepting a vice-presidential slot as “unfounded.”

The ADC aims to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
