Atiku: Tinubu lacks clear strategy against hunger and poverty

Atiku Abubakar warned that rising hunger and poverty under the Tinubu government could spark unrest, urging reforms with a human face.

Former Vice President and opposition leader Atiku Abubakar has warned that widespread hunger in Nigeria poses a grave threat to stability, accusing the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government of neglecting the poor.

In a statement issued Monday through his spokesman, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the situation as “unacceptable,” stressing that “most violent socio-political eruptions and revolutions all over the world had often been powered by pervasive hunger and unbearable material conditions.”

He argued that the masses are sinking deeper into poverty, while insecurity and criminality as well as terrorism, kidnapping, cultism, and ritual practices continue to grow.

Citing global examples such as the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, and the Arab Spring, Atiku noted that Nigeria’s #EndSARS protests were also fuelled by frustration.

“The reality of our existence is that the poor are increasingly dying of hunger while the majority of the living poor exists at the mercy of the ill-advised policies of this government,” he said.
