Atiku Abubakar has called for an independent investigation into the academic and professional records of President Bola Tinubu and his ministers, describing the administration as “forgery-ridden” and morally bankrupt.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called for an independent, transparent, and comprehensive investigation into the academic and professional records of all members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. In a statement personally signed on Wednesday, Atiku said the inquiry was necessary to cleanse Nigeria of the “global embarrassment” caused by the resignation of Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, over alleged certificate forgery. He described the controversy as proof of “the deep moral crisis at the heart of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration,” adding that “what should ordinarily be a matter of national shame is now being disguised as a ‘voluntary resignation.’”

Atiku accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of dereliction for clearing Nnaji despite glaring integrity concerns. “Their failure of due diligence has made Nigeria an object of ridicule,” he said. The former vice-president also claimed the alleged forgery saga reflects “a pattern of rot that begins from the very top,” referencing President Tinubu’s own “controversies surrounding his identity, age, and academic records.” He said Tinubu’s “personal history of alleged forgery and perjury” has normalized deceit in governance and urged a full investigation starting with the president himself to “restore integrity to public life.”
