“But let me remind you that those who started defection, the most popular one in the history of Nigeria is His Excellency Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as Nigeria’s “most popular defector” in political history, citing his repeated party switches.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, the ex-APC chairman argued Atiku’s moves—including leaving the PDP as sitting vice-president—qualified him to “write a book” on party defections.

“When, as a sitting vice-president of Nigeria, he decamped from PDP to ACN, which is now part of APC, was he courted by no state at all?” Oshiomhole quipped. He referenced Atiku’s 2006 shift to the Bola Tinubu-led ACN, then an opposition party, as a defining example of his political maneuvering.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates about party loyalty in Nigeria.

Oshiomhole’s critique underscores longstanding tensions between Atiku and the APC, which absorbed the ACN in 2013.

Atiku, now back in the PDP, has yet to respond.
