The commission flagged three fraudulent entities that displayed counterfeit CAC certificates and RC numbers
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria, established under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, has urged the public to practice due diligence before engaging with businesses. Through its revamped online portal, the CAC allows users to check the registration status of companies and business names.
Recently, the commission flagged three fraudulent entities; SPEF Cooperative Society Ltd, UPIL Staff Cooperative Society Ltd and PREM Staff Cooperative Society Ltd, that displayed counterfeit CAC certificates and RC numbers. It warned Nigerians to avoid transactions with such outfits. To confirm legitimacy, users should:
- log into the CAC website and search for the business name;
- complete the query form;
- view results that will display an RC or BN number, registered address and date of incorporation for genuine entities; or
- observe a blank table if the name is unregistered.
Business names carry BN numbers, while registered companies possess RC numbers. The commission reiterated that these simple steps can help job seekers and investors steer clear of scammers.
