“I think he should be a hero of democracy, but I don’t think he should aspire to lead this country…He should bring in new blood and say the future belongs to you.”
Former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to end his presidential pursuits and instead assume a father figure role within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in an interview with AIT on Monday, Baba-Ahmed praised Atiku’s political contributions but advised against another run. “You are a very prominent member of the PDP… I think he should be a hero of democracy, but I don’t think he should aspire to lead this country,” he said.
Atiku, who served eight years as vice president under Olusegun Obasanjo, has run for president three times.
Baba-Ahmed suggested Atiku should help build an alternative to the ruling APC by mentoring new leaders. “He should bring in new blood, new perspectives, and say the future belongs to you.”
He also called on other senior politicians like Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai to step aside and support younger political voices.
