Famous Nigerian actor Baba Ijesha has been released from prison after more than three years in custody, following an Appeal Court ruling clearing him of sexual assault allegations.

Famous Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, professionally known as Baba Ijesha, has regained his freedom after spending over three years in prison over sexual assault allegations, according to a report from DAILY POST.

The actor was released on Friday, 14 November 2025, following a decision by the Appeal Court that cleared him of charges involving the alleged sexual abuse of a minor. Baba Ijesha had been sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment on 14 July 2022 by the Lagos State High Court for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Actor Yomi Fabiyi announced the release on his Instagram page, celebrating the development. “You are now officially FREE AND OUT. Baba Ijesha is not just back but BETTER,” Fabiyi wrote. He added, “I am also happy you were cleared by the APPEAL COURT of ever having sex/defile any child/minor. The 7-year-old story is a charade. We live in a terrible world, where sentiments and wickedness rise above the rule of law and truth.”

Baba Ijesha’s release brings an end to a prolonged legal battle that had drawn significant public attention and debate in Nigeria. Supporters of the actor have welcomed the court’s decision, noting that justice has been served following the appeal. His return to freedom is expected to reignite conversations about the balance between public opinion and judicial process in high-profile cases.
